About Mary C. Miller
My friends shorten Mary C. Miller to "Mar". As a joke, they sometimes spell it the way it's pronounced - "mare". I am the mother of three, grandmother to four and have three great-grandchildren. I am also a women blessed with an artistic and entrepreneurial spirit.
Much to my parents dismay, I never held a real job for over two and a half years. Having my own business, was a special joy.
After many years of owning (and working!) The Bonsai Bench - a 6 acre wholesale/retail bonsai nursery - I changed course again and became a freelance writer and speaker.
My fields of expertise are bonsai and tropical horticulture. I frequently write articles for
Florida Gardening
and
Bonsai Societies of Florida
magazines.
If you have an interst in bonsai, please visit my bonsai site

In 2005, I wrote Bonsai with Tropicals - Some Things I learned Along the Way. I used lots of old photographs and my flatbed scanner helped get them ready.
Little did I know, I would use this same Epson scanner to create Scanner Magic!
My Photography Adventure
My foray into photography was one of need. As a magazine writer, I always required "better" close-up photos for my articles. I went from a simple digital camera to a $450. variety in search of the perfect shot.
After several lessons with an excellent professional photographer
Pedro Lastra
. . . I realized it wasn't the camera!
Then I discovered scanner photography. I was especially charmed by the deep rich, black backgrounds.
My Web Site Goal
My goal in creating the Scanner Magic site is to share with you a little known technique for creating fantastic close-up photographs - even for amateurs. Until recently, flatbed scanner technology for photography was a well kept secret.
I want to share the fun and amazing applications of scanner photography.
I know many of you will find scanography an enjoyable diversion or hobby, others may use it professionally and a few may go on to be scanner artists. But, everyone should at least know about Scanner Magic.
So much for the secret!
I had absolutely NO (as in zero) knowledge of creating a web site. But, I knew I wanted one.
My first mistake was to purchase one of those "fantastic, superb, unbelievably quick and easy create your own . . . . . . . . .
My wild ride, web site experience is continued on the page
about How I Created My Site.
