What is the Best Scanner to Use for Scanography?
Read This Before You Buy!
The best scanner for starting Scanner Magic is at the bottom of the equipment price range. Many times the temptation is to buy the latest, fanciest and most expensive equipment available. It's not necessary in this case.
I was explaining to experienced scanographer Patri Feher that my scanner was only an Epson3170. She quickly responded:
"One word of advice: A cheap Epson scanner is far superior to a more expensive any other brand."
Other experienced scanographers also recommend the low cost Epson as the best (especially for getting started). The 3170 model sells for about $100.
I purchased my first EPSON Perfection 3170 PHOTO to save old photos and slides. After several years, I wore it out. I had a difficult time finding it locally, so I ordered the new one directly from Epson online.
New or Used Scanner?
Not sure you want to buy a new scanner? Consider a refurbished one -- available online between $ 20. and $ 60. You may also be able to find one locally.
ALWAYS ask for the scanner software! If software is not available, you can still get it online, but it is a little more time consuming to install.
Before everyone finds out about Scanner Magic, you may even find one free! Since the new all-in-one scanners were introduced, lots of folks no longer use their old flatbed. Ask your friends or look on Craig's List for potential freebies.
