Me Create a Web Site?

Create a web site? I never thought it would happen!

My wild ride, web site experience began with purchasing a "fantastic, superb, unbelievably quick and easy, make-a-million, create-a-site deal".

It starts as an embarassing story, but I'm telling it anyway.

Bad Beginning:

This is the embarassing part . . .

I started out with the idea to create a web site about bonsai. Since I have been creating bonsai for over 25 years, it seemed like a viable "home based business" idea. Then . . .

I admit it, I got sucked in by one of those hard sell bargains to create a web site for only $500 and receive ten (or was it twenty) CDs, five e-books and all those "secrets", guaranteed! WOW! How could I go wrong?

When I received the package in the mail, I was ready to learn everything I could about web sites.

In the very first CD, I had no idea what they were talking about! When I heard "oh, by the way, you also need" I had a clue. It didn't take long before I realized that $500 was only the beginning.

In one of the videos, an attendee . . . at a "super fantatstic! seminar worth thousands of dollars!" . . . asked about refunds. The answer was:

"By the time they find the return address, the thirty days is up!"

I did not find the comment funny. I immediately went for my credit card. I called my credit card company, and began to search for the return address.

TRUE: It me took two weeks to finally determine the return information.

All of the email addresses were for ordering only, no phone numbers, no way to contact. I finally discovered the necessary information embedded in a most unlikely page. Three months later, after much back and forth, I did get my refund.

I vowed, no more quick and easy for me!

Good Ending:

Some time after that experience, with a disastrous freelance web designer experience inbetween, a friend introduced me to Site Build It.

I had recently found scanner photography and was even more anxious to create a web site. Scanner Magic was something I wanted to share. By then I was gun shy, but I knew I could make money online. I also knew I could not create a web site on my own.

When I looked at Site Build It, the first "warnings" I noticed were:

  • "This is NOT quick and easy." and
  • "Get Rich Quick is a Fraud."

That got my attention. Should I or shouldn't I? I could charge it and always cancel. After all, I already had that experience in my bag of tricks. Although I had my doubts, I knew I could make money onlnine and I went for it.

I know very little about creating anything on the computer -- other than e-mail. But I had discovered a new passion, and wanted to tell the world. I was looking for a "home based business", I wanted to "create a web site" and I was willing to work hard.

When I signed up online, I received no fancy CDs or stacks of meaningless paper. In no time, I was ready to start, right there on my computer.

(It took me two days to find Notepad! My fault, that's where I was with computer expertise.) After that I was on my way.

  • SBI gives you a choice of written or video guides. I use both!

  • All the Research Tools are easy to use.

  • HTML? I had no clue what it was. As it turned out, You don't need to know HTML.

  • SBI was built for me. It has a fill-in-the-blanks system!

  • Talk about a one-stop solution! There are options, but I have not needed to purchase anything additional!

  • When I get stuck, I contact "The Forums". Everyone is there to help, and they do. (I should have asked them where Notepad was.)

Easy? No. I feel like I've gone back to college. However, I've never purchased a better product that gave exactly what it promised! If I can do this, you surely can!
