Looking for freelance writing jobs? Tired of rejections?

How often do you miss being published because macro photography is not your forte? Impressive photo scanner images can escalate your writing career ... and you don't have to be an experienced scanographer or photographer.

Someone at The Tampa Tribune saw an article I wrote for Florida Gardening magazine. I had included several pieces of scanner photography. The newspaper graphics editor loved the flower scans.

Their choice for the Sunday edition, insert cover was this 'Star Grass'.

I'm not the only one to discover the great combination of freelance writing and scanography.

On her website, author Sandra Dodd shares how she uses scanography in her articles. Very clever and creative!

Is a Splash of Color What Your Writing Needs?

This is a flower from my yard. I chose an unusual "frilly" red Hibiscus bloom.

Pulled the petals from several flowers and placed them loosely on the scanner glass.

The vibrant outcome even surprised me!

The Writer's New Friend

Freelance jobs often require photographs.

Scanner Magic offers new opportunities.

I was writing an article for the Florida Bonsai magazine. I needed a photo of the scale (a pest) on the Bahama Berry plant (Nashia inaguensis).

I wanted to show what the tiny critter looked like.

After several unsuccessful attempts with my digital camera, I trimmed off a small piece of the plant and placed it on my flatbed scanner's glass.

When I submitted the article, I received a note back from the editor --

"Your macro photography sure has improved"!

The pest is the round white 'scale'. It is a sucking insect that attacks the underside of a branch. The orange berries shown here are approximately 1/8 inch in diameter.

I was thrilled to get this 'shot' with my photo scanner!

It was much easier than getting down on my hands and knees with my digital camera, to aim up at the branch and then wait for the breeze to stop.

REMINDER - When scanning plants and flowers use Acetate Sheets to protect your scanner glass from sap, pollen and dirt.

Put some Scanner Magic in your writer's tool box -- freelance writing jobs may just become a little easier to find!
