Quilting Projects

Quilt making is an old pastime, continually being updated with modern techniques. Today quilting is more popular than ever. Go to any fabric store and you will see small pieces of cloth bundled, ready to go. Why not add a little scanner photography to your next "story in cloth"?

Yes, you can print photos on cloth. I had some questions about inks when printing scanography on cloth, so I asked expert quilter Jeannie Spears. She responded:

"Based on my testing for Quilter's Newsletter, we recommend using dye-based inks on pretreated fabrics for items that will be washed, and pigment inks for items that will be displayed.

Pigment inks will rub off the surface in washing, since they do not penetrate the fibers. Also, it is not a good idea to try to change the type of ink a printer uses. "

Jeannie also recommended a new quilting book 'Altered Photo Artistry' by Beth Wheeler and Lori Marquardt. See what you can do with all those new pictures you've been taking!

Stained Glass

Another old art form enjoying a huge resurgence is stained glass. Scanography adds a totally new dimension to creating patterns for stained glass, just ask Sue, the Stained Glass Lady.

Writer or Writer Wanna-Be?

Are you a professional or have high hopes? See suggestions and one of my successful scans used in a Bonsai magazine article at "Attention Freelance Writers."

Thinking about writing your own book, need pictures? Don't pass on the opportunity for scanography to give a special splash, maybe on the cover!

Help kids create a simple "book" using a business "presentation book" or a three ring binder. Let them pick a subject and tell their story. Collecting items to use and scanning them will be the fun part fun! Lots of photos will make it exciting! Sure hope you didn't miss the Kid's page!

Memory Saver

What ever happened to that prom corsage you were going to keep forever? Things we press often get lost along the way.

Did you ever find a flattened rose, and couldn't remember where it came from? Now you can scan those special flowers from special events. Keep their memory looking new - scan, print and place them with your journal. Or just name them correctly when you save it in your computer file.

Share Your Special Uses for Scanography

Gail recently sent us a new use for Scanner Magic!

"I have friends here in my town who own a jewelry store. They use their scanner to 'photocopy' color images of jewelry, if customers want to take it home and show it to someone else."
