Simply Minimal

I discovered scanning as a creative medium looking at the work of others on Flickr and related sites. I had my own simple scanner and started experimenting. I found that I was enjoying working this way more than with an ordinary camera. During 2008 I upgraded to a better, but inexpensive Epson v200 scanner. I think it wonderful that such quality is possible at such little cost.

Scanning objects brings me closer to them, allowing me to enjoy very small detail. I personally believe that scanning works on a 'less is more' principal. The less objects or individual elements the better the final result.

Most images scanned undergo a limited amount of post processing - a little bit or 'ortonisation' to thicken the image, and some darkening of the background. No expensive software need be used to obtain great results. Apart from the scanner and the Pc, the only other essential piece of eqquipment is a static-free dust cloth from your local photographic store.

I can happily advise everyone with even a small interest in this rewarding to experiment with whatever equipment they have, relax and enjoy it!!
